Ad Campaigns & Catalog

Alpinestars was short on time, with multiple seasonal campaigns set to launch along an upcoming sales meeting for the new motocross line. Their art director had just left & they needed help, quickly. Working together with their management, we created 4 ad campaigns & a catalog for their motocross line which spoke to their resonated with their individual consumers while feeling like a cohesive voice from the brand.

Final Direction

The final direction took multiple images, one of which being in full color & the secondary / supporting photos were colorized versions of black & white images from other shots in the sequence. This combined design approach stood out from the existing campaigns in motocross magazines which all looked the same, they all had an oversaturated photo stood behind some photoshop effects & a company logo.
As seen in RacerX Illustrated November 2013
Other ads in the series were done in-house, following the same style with a slightly different font.
The catalog worked with the ad campaign to create a cohesive look.

Final Direction

The campaign was meant to bring back memories of the fun that occurs when you live the Alpinestars type lifestyle. Hanging out with friends on a cabo-surf exploration trip, riding your bike through the canyons, out on the lake with friends or any other time that you weren’t in full gear doing battle with your favorite way of having fun while trying not to get hurt.

The lifestyle campaign brought all of that together, while taking cues from the motocross campaign. Each ad featured a snapshot of an event, with a supporting video edit or gallery available for people to view online, both completing the story & drawing consumers to Alpinestars media channels.
Spread style, the white space around the edges made the ad stand out.
Ads featured a snapshot of a story, directing people to view the rest of the story online with edits & galleries.

Snapshot Passport Concept
Compass Concept

Final Direction

The adventure category is filled with people who plan trips for months or even years, and this campaign was meant to invoke their desire to go explore. Backcountry photos inspired them to get on their bike, passport type stamps & scratchings of directions brought back memories of their last trip. The final campaign featured compass inspired branding & a quadrant style layout with each section showing off either an amazing photo, an article of gear or stamps & branding meant to inspire the next trip.
The campaign had each ad broken into quadrants. Action, product & detail shots along with a branding section. Passport stamps were added to celebrate the feeling of adventure & exploration, huge motifs in adventure riders explorations.
The campaign featured passport stamps & stylized branding to look like a passport stamp.

Black Shadow

Directed towards fashion minded individuals, Alpinestars Black Shadow line is their technical riding line with styles that look like they could be on the runway. Directed at the customer loves riding but doesn’t want to look like a biker, the customer rides a Limited Edition Ducati, reworked Triumph or other rolling works of art. Fully featured leather jackets look like something you’d find at Barney’s but they’re fully featured safety devices ready for a spill.
The campaign featured an Alpinestars rider or celebrity enthusiast (Ben Spies shown above)  in a riding oriented environment (shop, garage, cafe during ride, etc). The rider image in the foreground features their personality & the article of clothing with the background ghosted / double exposed in the background.
